BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Campbellsville softball was on fire in the first three innings tallying eight hits but could only muster one in the final four innings before falling to No. 12 Olivet Nazarene University, 5-2.
The loss moves Campbellsville to the elimination bracket of the NAIA Softball Opening Round at Michael Buchanon Park. Olivet Nazarene will now play top-seeded Indiana Wesleyan on Tuesday, May 18 at 2 p.m. ET. CU will face the loser of that game at 5 p.m. ET.
The two-seeded and 16th-ranked Lady Tigers teed-off against Miranda Southall through the first three innings ripping eight hits including a two-run double by Tori Humphrey to tie the game at 2-2. But Emily Blucker (6-0) entered the circle and sat down 13 of the final 15 batters for Campbellsville tossing 4.1 innings.
Three-seeded Olivet Nazarene got on the board in the first inning after Alli Davis hit the first of her two two-run home runs. She put the ONU Tigers up 2-0 before Humphrey’s two-run double to tie it. The tie didn’t last long as Davis went opposite field for her 15th homer of the year putting ONU ahead, 4-2.
Olivet scored an insurance run off Katy Chadwell (20-5) in the seventh after an RBI bloop by Kori Fricke.
Blucker went 4.1 innings allowing only one hit and striking out two. Chadwell allowed a career-high 14 hits, five runs and struck out three. Southall allowed two runs and eight hits through 2.2 innings.
Due to Aquinas College being eliminated from the tournament after having positive COVID-19 tests, the Opening Round is now a three team tournament.
