Capcom Sold Over 41 Million Games In The Last Financial Year

Capcom has reported record sales in its financial year results, which covered the last 12 months that ended on March 31, 2023. The big takeaway from the published financial results was the sale of 41.7 million games during that 12-month period, up from the 32.6 million games sold during the previous financial year.

This new figure has broken yet another record for Capcom, making this the sixth consecutive year of “record-high profits” for the company. Out of all the games that it published in those 12 months, Resident Evil 4 and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak were two of its best performers. Net sales were up 14.4% year-on-year, operating income was up 18.4% from the previous fiscal year, and ordinary income was up 15.9% from the previous fiscal year.

While the Resident Evil 4 remake was released just a week before the 2023 financial year ended, it has sold 3.75 million units so far. Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, which has had a longer lead time, has sold 5.45 million units. Capcom noted that the bulk of its sales came from catalog titles that were released in the previous fiscal year or earlier, and 12.4 million in sales was made up of new titles. Resident Evil 2 accounted for 2.25 million sales and Resident Evil 3 was responsible for 1.95 million sales during the 2023 financial year.

Interestingly, 89.4% of its game sales–or 37.3 million–during those 12 months were digital and 19.7% of sales originated on its homeground in Japan. For the 2024 fiscal year, Capcom is looking to break its sales records once again with two of its upcoming games, Street Fighter 6 in June and Exoprimal in July.

In other financial news, Nintendo posted its 2023 financial year results. While total game sales have reached a new record high, console sales have declined by 22% and no new hardware has been confirmed for this fiscal year.
