Carlos Alcaraz blasts past Jeremy Chardy to enter Wimbledon second round – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, began his Wimbledon campaign in dominant fashion, defeating French veteran Jeremy Chardy 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 on Tuesday.
While Roger Federer received a warm reception in the Royal Box on Centre Court, Alcaraz showcased his talent on Court One, solidifying his reputation as the future of men’s tennis.
Playing under the roof, the 20-year-old Spaniard overwhelmed Chardy with his explosive serves and powerful forehands.

Alcaraz, who recently claimed the US Open title and reclaimed the top spot in the ATP rankings after winning the Queen’s Club title on grass, raced through the opening set in just 20 minutes.
As Alcaraz continued his dominance by taking the first two games of the second set, Chardy’s final Grand Slam tournament turned into a nightmare.

However, the Frenchman, a former world number 25 who had previously defeated Federer, managed to get on the scoreboard, receiving warm applause for a successful service hold.
The third set became more competitive as rain pounded on the translucent roof, momentarily muffling the sound of Alcaraz’s powerful shots.

Despite trailing 2-4 after a lackluster service game, Alcaraz regained his focus and finished off Chardy in under two hours, concluding the match with an ace.
Alcaraz’s impressive victory highlighted his immense potential and solidified his status as a rising star in the tennis world.
