Carlos Alcaraz finally listens to what fans were saying ‘through the Wimbledon’

Carlos Alcaraz has been given the seal of approval on social media after a video went viral of him showcasing a new haircut days after his win over Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final. The Spaniard pulled off one the hardest feats in tennis by defeating Djokovic on Centre Court, ending the Serbian’s 10-year unbeaten run in the arena.

But Alcaraz didn’t let his success at Wimbledon stand in the way of his original schedule. The world No 1 was making his Hopman Cup debut this week and grabbed the attention of many on social media as he was seen sporting a fresh trim.

Alcaraz had let his hair grow out at Wimbledon, but clearly felt the need to chop off his sides immediately after his second Grand Slam win. And his new haircut went down well on social media with many stating Alcaraz should have done it sooner.

@ScottGWrites tweeted: “I was telling my wife during the Wimbledon final that Carlos needed a new haircut and he listened to me! Ooo-la-la!”

@glimmertwintx wrote: “I was saying this all through Wimbledon! Maybe he wasn’t cutting his hair to not jinx it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯.”

@BastienFachan posted: “Shoutout to Carlos Alcaraz’s new barber, he’s the real MVP.”

@aliensaretight said: “I’ve always said the only thing he has left to improve his game is more bananas to help the cramping and a solid barber.”

Alcaraz’s new trim failed to make it easy for him on his first match since winning Wimbledon. The Spaniard lost the opening set to David Goffin at the Hopman Cup in France, before coming back to win in three sets and level Spain’s tie with Belgium.

Spain managed to progress in the indoor tournament, meaning Alcaraz was back in action on the weekend. And he kept his winning run going with a victory over Borna Coric, although Spain were already knocked out of the competition by the time Alcaraz took to the court.

Donna Vekic had secured Croatia’s progress to the next round earlier in the day after she defeated Rebeka Masarova. After the Hopman Cup, Alcaraz is likely to take a rest before the North American swing heading into the US Open.

He’s expected to return for the Canadian Open in Toronto as well as the Cincinnati Open. Then his focus will turn to the defence of his US Open title, where he beat Casper Ruud in last year’s final.
