Carlos Alcaraz unafraid of Novak Djokovic with confident Wimbledon final warning
Carlos Alcaraz sent Novak Djokovic a message ahead of their Wimbledon final showdown as he said he wasn’t afraid of facing the seven-time champion at SW19. The world No 1 booked his spot in his maiden Wimbledon final with a 6-3 6-3 6-3 victory over Daniil Medvedev.
Alcaraz reached his second career Grand Slam final and his first at Wimbledon with a brilliant performance against third seed Medvedev in the semi-final. The world No 1 needed an hour and 50 minutes to make light work of the 27-year-old as he broke five times.
He now faces his toughest test yet at Wimbledon – seven-time champion Djokovic. The Serb hasn’t lost a match on Centre Court since the 2013 final and has won the last four editions of the tournament. But Alcaraz said he wasn’t afraid as he relished the chance to take on the Serb in Sunday’s final.
“I will believe in myself, I will believe that I can beat him here. He’s unbeatable since 2013 I think on this court so it’s gonna be a really tough challenge for me but I’m grateful for this,” Alcaraz told the Centre Court crowd.
“I’ve dreamed since I started playing tennis to play a final but it’s even more special playing against Novak. But it’s a final, it’s not time to be afraid, it’s not time to be tired. I will go for it.”
After achieving his dream of reaching the final at SW19, Alcaraz said he wouldn’t stop aiming high with the title now on the line. He added: “Well as I said before, it’s a dream for me playing a semi-final here. To be able to play a final here in Wimbledon honestly, I can’t believe it. Like I sai, I’m going to enjoy this amazing moment for me and it’s time to keep dreaming.”
