Chargers QB Justin Herbert goes viral after dunking on kids in Oregon gym

Justin Herbert’s season ended several weeks ago, but one of the game’s top young quarterbacks hasn’t stopped making his opponents look silly.

This time, though, his opponents aren’t NFL linebackers or defensive backs, but rather kids playing basketball back in Herbert’s home state of Oregon.

Herbert, who hails from Oregon and went to the Unverisity Oregon, was shown dunking on his rec center opponents clad in Ducks gear and the 6-foot-6 gunslinger showed no mercy and threw down some emphatic dunks along the way.

He looked every bit the floor general as he does a field one, waving off a screen and taking over the game, Herbert went all out.

He’s made a living playing football, but Herbert’s no stranger to the hardwood, either. He was a three-sport athlete in high school, including basketball and he never played 7-on-7 because finishing out the high school basketball and baseball seasons were important to him.

The second-year QB is far from the only NFL player to enjoy basketball in their free time, but he’s certainly one of the most high-profile. One of his intradivision foes, Patrick Mahomes, went viral for playing basketball two years ago before the Chiefs put that to an end over injury concerns to Mahomes.

The Chargers fell just short of the playoffs this year after a Week 18 loss to the Raiders, but it wasn’t because of anything Herbert did or didn’t do. The 23-year-old completeed 65.9 percent of his passes while ranking second in passing yards (5,014) and third in passing touchdowns (38), setting numerous Chargers’ franchise records in the process.

It’s a long offseason and Herbert is a known golfer in addition his other athletic exploits, so it’s possible he makes his rounds in gyms and pickup games all over the Beaver State before too long.
