Check your Android phone now to avoid dangerous bug sweeping the globe

A vicious new Android bug is sweeping across the globe and it could leave smartphone owners seriously out of pocket. Due to the severity of the issue, security experts are urging all users of Google’s popular operating system to pay close attention to the apps they are downloading as this is how the ‘dangerous’ banking malware is being spread across the planet.

Threatfabric has confirmed that Xenomorph is now able to completely automate the whole fraud chain, from infection to funds exfiltration, making it one of the most advanced and dangerous Android Malware trojans in circulation.

To make matters worse, it’s thought that around 400 banking institutions have already been targeted. The previous version of Xenomorph was about six times less potent than this new strain which is why it has set alarm bells ringing.

Most of the banking attacks seem to have taken place in countries including Turkey, Spain and the US.

Currently, there’s no mention of the UK being affected but similar attacks have taken place before so British Android users need to stay alert.

Speaking about the issue, Threatfabric said in a blog post: “The Xenomorph saga highlights once more that actors are switching their focus on mobile malware. The latest version of Xenomorph included large improvements from its previous iteration, adding Automated Transfer System (ATS) capabilities, which elevate the threat level of this family even more.

“ThreatFabric expects Xenomorph to increase in volume, with the likelihood of being one again distributed via droppers on the Google Play Store.”

If you have recently downloaded a new application and things don’t feel right then it’s worth keeping a close eye on your bank account to make sure no strange transactions are taking place.

With Google Play likely to be a target for future attacks, it’s a good idea to check before downloading any new apps.

Read the reviews and check the developer who created the software has a good reputation. If you’re unsure. Stay clear!
