Check your Chrome browser now- Google releases urgent update

If you use Google’s popular Chrome browser to surf the web, send emails and shop online, it is important that you download a critical new update as soon as possible. The US tech giant has issued a worrying alert after discovering a new malware that has been given the dreaded zero-day rating. For those not aware zero-day means the glitch has already been spotted by hackers, who are now actively exploiting it in the wild.

This means that if your device is running on an older version of Chrome, you could be at risk of a cyber attack, and because of the seriousness of this rating, Google has scrambled to plug the leak and is currently rolling out a software fix across the globe.

Once you have downloaded the latest version of Chrome, the software will prevent any future attempts by cybercriminals to steal your data using the same flaw, protecting you from further attacks.

Confirming the release, Google said: “The Stable and extended stable channel has been updated to 112.0.5615.121 for Windows Mac and Linux which will roll out over the coming days/weeks.

“This update includes 2 security fixes. Google is aware that an exploit for CVE-2023-2033 exists in the wild.”

It is crucial that anyone who uses Google Chrome check their Windows laptops and Apple MacBooks to make sure things are upgraded to the very latest version which is called 112.0.5615.121.

You can check your current version of Chrome by simply launching the browser, then clicking Chrome from the menu bar and tapping About Chrome – here you’ll see what is installed and if any upgrades are available.

If it’s showing something older than 112.0.5615.121 then you should update things as soon as possible.

How to update your Chrome browser:

• On your computer, open Chrome

• At the top right, click More.

• Click Help. About Google Chrome.

• Click Update Google Chrome. Important: If you can’t find this button, you’re on the latest version.

• Click Relaunch.
