Chelsea and Tottenham to renew Anthony Gordon battle in January

Chelsea and Tottenham are set to renew their battle to sign Everton starlet Anthony Gordon in January, with the player’s agent reportedly telling the powerhouse duo that his client won’t be signing a new contract at Goodison Park. Gordon came through the Everton academy and has become a first-team star over the last year.

Chelsea and Tottenham spent big money over the summer, with both clubs aspiring to compete for silverware in the Premier League and Champions League. And they were locked in a battle to prise Gordon away from Merseyside.

But the 21-year-old, who is contracted to Everton until 2025, ultimately ended up staying in the north west.

Gordon has started all seven of the Toffees matches this campaign and notched goals in back-to-back clashes with Brentford and Leeds at the end of August. And according to ex-Star reporter Paul Brown, who was speaking to GivemeSport, Chelsea, Spurs and other top clubs will be sniffing around the forward when the January transfer window opens as they will know from the player’s advisors that he is not about to sign a long-term deal at Everton.

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly was only prepared to splurge £40m to get his hands on Gordon during the summer transfer window. Tottenham, meanwhile, reportedly put an offer of £100m on the table for Richarlison and Gordon ahead of the new season. But they only ended up securing the Brazil international for £60m.

Gordon is currently on international duty with the England under-21s side and has been tipped to become a full Three Lions international in the future. And his situation on Merseyside was addressed by his manager Lampard last week. “The club is speaking with Anthony and Anthony’s people to see if we can get the right solution,” said the former Chelsea midfielder.

Gordon is set to return to Goodison Park after the England under-21s face Germany next Tuesday. And he will likely start for his club once again when they travel to Southampton next Saturday.
