Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino sends Todd Boehly transfer message over striker

Mauricio Pochettino has declared he’s open to adding more forwards to Chelsea’s squad this summer before the September 1 transfer deadline. The Argentine tactician guided his team to the Premier League Summer Series title during their tour of the USA following a 2-0 win over Fulham in Summerfield, Maryland.

Thiago Silva and Christopher Nkunku were among the goals as the Frenchman continued his fine start to life in west London following his transfer from RB Leipzig.

Nkunku and fellow forward Nicolas Jackson have been two of the brightest sparks in pre-season during the first four weeks of Pochettino’s tenure.

Yet there is still a sense Chelsea might be light on the ground in the forward department due to the number of departures they’ve sanctioned this summer.

Pochettino certainly wouldn’t say no to the right signing, although he also stressed his satisfaction with new boys Nkunku and Jackson.

He said: “If the club can add some different profiles to help us we are open but I am so happy with both.”

Chelsea have been in talks with Montpellier over the signing of Elye Wahi and have already seen a bid worth £21.5million rejected by the French club.

Even if they were to land the red-hot Montpellier attacker, they would be expected to loan him back to Ligue 1 for the 2023/24 season.

The Blues have been credited with an interest in Kylian Mbappe but the transfer does not look realistic by any stretch of imagination.

Paris Saint-Germain would be set to demand up to £250m for Mbappe and Chelsea simply cannot afford a fee of that magnitude.

The club looked at Victor Osimhen and Lautaro Martinez earlier in the transfer window but nothing came of their interest.

Chelsea will be fearful that if they are to lose Jackson or Nkunku, they do not have many forward options in reserve.

Armando Broja is now on the comeback trail after he missed a large crux of last season with a serious knee injury.

Romelu Lukaku, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Hakim Ziyech are now on their way out of the club but Chelsea are yet to find buyers for either player.

There are two new arrivals imminent at Chelsea with Lesley Ugochukwu set to join the club from Stade Rennes.

The 19-year-old midfielder is expected to spend the upcoming season out on loan at Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club.

Furthermore, a £38m deal has also been struck with Monaco for Axel Disasi.

The versatile defender is set to provide competition at centre-back and full-back following Wesley Fofana’s serious knee injury.
