Chelsea have answer to Kai Havertz conundrum as German finds form
Kai Havertz has offered Chelsea the answer to their conundrum over where to play him and says he’ll play anywhere as long as he can get into the box. The German scored a brilliant goal in the 2-1 Champions League win over Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday night.
And Havertz also found the net in the Stamford Bridge win over Wolves earlier in October. The 23-year-old is looking to rediscover his best form under Graham Potter having yet to score more than eight goals in a Premier League season.
That’s despite him hitting 17 and then 12 in his last two seasons with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. He has found it tougher going at Chelsea though, and much of the discussion around his inconsistent form in London has entered around his best position.
But Havertz, the hero of Chelsea’s 2021 Champions League triumph, insists it is not a problem for him where he plays. The 30-cap Germany international, who has 10 goals for his country, has vowed to do his best to get into the box wherever he’s deployed.

“It was nice to score an important goal and I hope to continue in this manner.” And he said of new Chelsea manager Potter: “I’ve only worked with him for a few weeks, but he is a very, very good coach and time will tell how far we can go in the Champions League – hopefully a long way.”
That praise was reciprocated, with Potter telling BT Sport: “It (the goal) was amazing, top corner and it makes my job a lot easier when they can do that, to be fair! Great for him. Really pleased because he’s been fighting and trying his best and was nearly there to scoring more.
“To score that and help us through today, it’s fantastic.” Potter added of Havertz in his post-match press conference: “His quality is there. He’s an incredibly talented player. He’s been nearly there and obviously, scoring a goal like that is bound to help. I wouldn’t be able to score a goal like that to be fair, I can only imagine! It’s a fantastic strike and an indication of the quality he has. So I’m really pleased for him.”
