Chelsea have three players PSG might accept in swap deal to sign £87m Mbappe
Chelsea could attempt to offload some of their fringe stars to Paris Saint-Germain in negotiations for Kylian Mbappe this summer. The Blues are said to be interested in acquiring the services of the forward, though his significant price tag could prove to be a deterrence.
PSG have put Mbappe ‘up for sale’ after it was announced that he would not be activating the contract extension clause in his current deal meaning that he will become a free agent at the end of next season. The ex-Monaco star has insisted that he will not be leaving, but interested clubs will be hopeful of turning his head.
According to The Times, PSG are willing to entertain bids of over £87milliion for the France international and expect to open talks with interested parties next week. Saudi clubs are among those keen, as well as Chelsea and Real Madrid.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side could try and position themselves as favourites to land the 24-year-old by offering PSG their fringe players in a deal for Mbappe. Express Sport takes a look at three options that Chelsea could consider offering up…
Hakim Ziyech
After coming within minutes of joining the Ligue 1 outfit in January, it would be a shock if the Blues did not offer Ziyech to PSG. The Moroccan international has been deemed surplus to requirements and is desperate to depart after falling down the pecking order under both Graham Potter and Frank Lampard. It would take a serious turn of events for Ziyech to be a Chelsea player next season given that he is not pre-season squad either, so it would be logical to offer up his services when negotiating for any player in what remains of the transfer window.
Romelu Lukaku
PSG have already begun searching for replacements for Mbappe, with Tottenham star Harry Kane being heavily considered. Lukaku could also be a plausible option at the Parc des Princes given his desire to leave Chelsea and how he recently burned bridges with Inter Milan, which was his probable destination at one stage.
Raheem Sterling
Although Pochettino has sung the praises of Sterling since his arrival, one has to question how frequently the winger will feature next season. With several new signings all battling it out for positions in the starting eleven, the England international could find himself warming the bench frequently and Chelsea may feel that the ex-Manchester City star would significantly reduce the price they would need to pay for Mbappe.
