Chelsea have two Jules Kounde alternatives on shortlist if Sevilla block January deal

Chelsea are watching two alternatives to Jules Kounde if they once again fail to sign the Sevilla defender, according to reports. The Blues were frustrated in their attempts to sign the Frenchman during the summer transfer window.

Thomas Tuchel spent the majority of the off-season trying to sign Kounde from the Liga club.

However, Sevilla refused to sell and Chelsea ultimately ended up without a new defender.

Their only summer signings were the £97.5million acquisition of Romelu Lukaku and the loan addition of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

Kounde has gone on to have an impressive season for Sevilla after playing for France at Euro 2020.

The 23-year-old has played 20 times across all competitions for a Sevilla side who find themselves second in LaLiga.

And it now appears that the West Londoners have a back-up plan in place in case they are once more frustrated in their attempts to sign Kounde.

According to ESPN, Chelsea are tracking Lille’s Netherlands international Sven Botman and the Wolfsburg star Maxence Lacroix.

Botman, 21 has played in 15 games for the French side this season while Lacroix, also 21, has featured 20 times.

“So we struggle, obviously, with this and at the same point, we’re always focused on the solution and guys we have on the pitch.

“We were strong enough today and I’m not so sure right now why we get punished like this.

“I see teams concede many more chances than we do, teams concede many more half-chances than we do, we conceded nothing and it was a draw.

“I think we have a huge possibility with a 3-0 for is and it would be a fair result.

“We can’t change that anymore and that is why we have to find the balance in being honest, critical with each other, but also accept that sometimes we get punished for not a lot.”
