Chelsea leave Man Utd icon Paul Scholes red-faced over terribly wrong prediction
Chelsea have left Manchester United icon Paul Scholes looking red-faced after the pundit made a prediction that has gone terribly wrong. The Blues travelled to Brentford on Saturday night, needing a win to take them back to the top of the Premier League.
But heading into the clash, Scholes had played down the chances of Thomas Tuchel’s side being able to challenge for the title.
Surprisingly, it was the defensive options that Tuchel has at his disposal that led to Scholes making his prediction.
Former United star Scholes highlighted the youth of Chelsea’s defence and claimed that they had the worst group when compared to Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.
“I also think defensively, I think you’re not great defensively,” Scholes told The Overlap Fan Debate 2.0 when questioned about his doubts over Chelsea.
“Rudiger’s been really good but outside of that, you’ve got Thaigo Silva who’s what 36, 37, he’s not going to play every game.

Those defensive frailties are a trend that has emerged at Old Trafford this season, with United having conceded the most goals of anyone in the top eight.
That is despite having spent £40million on Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane in the summer transfer window.
By contrast, Chelsea have the joint-best defensive record in the division, a large part of the reason why they sit top of the table.
The Blues have conceded just three goals this term, following on from last season when Tuchel quickly solved the defensive issues from Frank Lampard’s reign.
In further evidence of their abilities at the back, the Blues were able to keep at clean sheet against Brentford.
Tuchel was forced to play a relatively inexperienced back three of Malang Sarr, Andreas Christensen and Trevoh Chalobah.
But that trio excelled at the Brentford Community Stadium, keeping the Bees at bay and limiting them to just one big chance created.
That defensive performance ensured they kept a clean sheet, their sixth of the season in all competitions, to leave Scholes looking red-faced.
