Chelsea owner Todd Boehly ready to make ‘six more signings’ with arrangement …

Mauricio Pochettino may well be financially backed as much as Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter with Chelsea reportedly ready to sign as many as six players this summer. Pochettino faces a tough task in trying to turn things around at Stamford Bridge after a disappointing season for the Blues last year.

It proved to be a baptism of fire for the new Chelsea owners despite their lavish spending. Big money was spent on the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Wesley Fofana and Mykhaylo Mudryk as 14 permanent first-team signings were made for roughly £600million.

Chelsea were able to circumnavigate financial fair play regulations through the process of amortisation, by handing out longer contracts so the fee can be spread out across a number of years. Despite this tactic, it was suggested that Chelsea’s spending would slow down this summer with Pochettino in charge.

However, the Times report otherwise with the club prepared to sign as many as six new players. It does claim Chelsea have an arrangement in place depending on how many players leave the club this summer.

Trimming down the bloated playing squad will be Pochettino’s first task, but he’s still set to be given funds to bring in his own signings. The report points out Chelsea’s interest in players such as Andre Onana, Mike Maignan, Lautaro Martinez and Moises Caicedo are top targets for the club.

A new No 1 is wanted with Edouard Mendy expected to leave while Chelsea are keen to bring in a central striker as well as a midfielder. But it’s suggested that Chelsea could dip into the market for more than one midfield signing.

Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are all being linked with possible moves away this summer. Manchester United look set to lodge their opening bid for Mount this week as personal terms have already reportedly been agreed between the two parties.

But Chelsea are set to play hardball in negotiations with their rivals with claims they will demand a fee around £70m. Meanwhile, Kovacic is reportedly a target for Manchester City and Loftus-Cheek could make a move to Italy.

N’Golo Kante is also leaving to join Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad, leaving Chelsea short in the engine room.
