Chelsea readying Andre Onana attack as Inter Milan expect ‘very high offer’
Chelsea are reportedly preparing a mammoth offer for Andre Onana, with Inter Milan already putting plans in place to cope with his summer departure. The Blues’ transfer pursuit could conclude in a matter of weeks as Todd Boehly and co continue to make headway before the window has even opened.
Incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen to revamp the spine of the team after a dismal season. The Argentine’s predecessor, Frank Lampard, oversaw just one win in 11 matches as interim boss.
While a new striker and a midfielder are both thought to be high up on the priority list, a fresh influence in goal is also expected to be sought out, spelling trouble for current first-and-second-choice options Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy.
Chelsea’s interest in Inter stopper Onana has been known for some time, and things may just be falling into place on the Italian side of the deal.
Promisingly for Chelsea, Calciomercato claim that Inter have scheduled talks with their back-up goalkeeper, Samir Handanovic, for after the Champions League final. The Slovenian is out of contract at the end of this season but could be kept around for fear of losing Onana.
The Nerazzurri have taken their recent action due to a reported belief that Chelsea will submit a ‘very high offer’ for Onana over the coming weeks. The recent indications are that Boehly and his transfer team will not hang around now that Pochettino is in place.
Former Aston Villa and England striker Gabby Agbonlahor has already given his take on who he would let go, telling talkSPORT: “[Ruben] Loftus-Cheek, for me, I would get rid of. Mason Mount, I wouldn’t give him a new contract.
“Conor Gallagher, I would get rid of. [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang is an easy one to get rid of, and for [Christian] Pulisic I would say ‘bye-bye’. [Kalidou] Koulibaly, touch and go, he hasn’t looked like the Koulibaly they wanted to sign from Napoli. [Cesar] Azpilicueta I’d let go and [Hakim] Ziyech I would let go.”
