Chisora highlights change that makes Fury more ‘beatable’ in trilogy

Derek Chisora is confident he has a better chance of beating Tyson Fury in their third encounter after losing their previous two in 2011 and 2014. Del Boy believes Fury’s change of trainer to SugarHill Steward will make a big difference on fight night.

When Fury and Chisora fought their first two contests, the Mancunian was being trained by his uncle Peter Fury – who is known for developing tricky and elusive fighters. Under Peter, Fury went on to secure the WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight titles from long-reigning unified champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Shortly afterwards, Fury took a three-year hiatus as he battled mental health problems and alcoholism. When he returned to the ring in 2018, he linked up with rookie trainer Ben Davison before switching to Steward ahead of his rematch with Deontay Wilder.

With Steward heading up his camps, Fury adopted a far more aggressive front-foot style as he went on to knock out Wilder in back-to-back outings. Chisora – known for his no-nonsense inside fighting – believes this version of Fury will be better suited to him as a fighter.

When asked whether he can beat Fury on December 3, Chisora told BT Sport: “This time, yeah. When he was with Peter Fury, he was a very tricky fighter because Peter Fury is a very tricky coach. You know, he likes to surprise fighters, but I think with this American trainer (SugarHill Steward) if he’s still training with this American trainer. Tyson is very strong and very big, so he’s been training to use his size and strength and go forward so that will be interesting, but you never know.

“For me, the biggest thing I’ve got right now is that I’m sparring orthodox, and I’ve got southpaws in the gym because you never know what he’s going to come out as. What’s difficult is that no heavyweight out there is like Tyson. You’ve got bigger guys, but they don’t move like him. Only God knows what’s going to happen on December 3.”

For a time, it seemed as though Fury and Steward were no longer working together after Fury announced that he would be coached by his training partner Issac Lowe when the trilogy was initially spoken about back in August. However, Steward has once again been reinstated as head trainer for next month’s clash and has joined Fury in Morecambe to kick off his camp.
