Christopher Nolan Says It Is ‘Flattering’ That People Think He Would Use a Real Atomic Bomb in Oppenheimer
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is geared up to release this week on arguably the most anticipated Friday this year for movie lovers. Oppenheimer will tell the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, who is considered as the “father of the atomic bomb”. Nolan, the man behind The Dark Knight, Inception and Interstellar, is known for his quest for realism when he is shooting his movies. The most recent example of it was Tenet when Nolan did not opt for VFX, but instead blew an actual aeroplane for a sequence in the film.
Christopher Nolan on using an actual atomic bomb for Oppenheimer
With Oppenheimer set to revolve around the origin of atomic bomb, the internet started to have its fun on how Nolan would opt for realism once again and that he will use an actual atomic bomb explosion to depict the events in Oppenheimer. The joke soon turned serious when news came out that Nolan has shot the entire movie without VFX including the Trinity test scene.
As fans started to actually believe in it, the news finally reached Nolan who told The Hollywood Reporter his thoughts on the matter. Nolan said that while he is flattered that fans think he would be so accurate about the movie’s depiction, he also pointed out how scary a situation like that would be. Here is what Nolan said:
The Oppenheimer trailer countdown
The Oppenheimer trailer countdown had been playing on a loop on Universal’s YouTube page and fans initially thought the countdown is for the movie’s release date. However, they soon realized that it was not the case. Finally, filmmaker Siddhant Adlakha tweeted that the countdown was actually leading to the exact moment of the Trinity test, which is the first explosion of an atomic bomb that took place on July 16, 1945.
