Chromebooks are getting new video editing and productivity features – Times of India
Over the next few months, Google will be rolling out new features to the ChromeOS – OS running on the Chromebooks. So, your Chromebook will soon receive some new features, including new video editing tools and a slew of productivity apps and features.
Google Photos gets a new video editing tool, but only on Chromebooks
Google is bringing a new video editor for Photos, which will be available first for Chromebooks this fall. The users will be able to select pre-existing themes and the people or pets they want to feature in their video. Afterwards, the app will select the photos and clips from the videos to make your movie.
Apart from making the videos using the themes, users can also make a movie from scratch using the movie editor. The app will allow users to select photos or videos from Chromebook’s Gallery and Files apps. The users will also be able to use Google’s Real Tone filters in their movies. Furthermore, LumaFusion is bringing its video editing app to Chromebook.
ChromeOS is getting new productivity apps
Besides introducing the new video editor, Google is also bringing some new apps to Chromebooks to increase users’ productivity. The new apps include – Gallery, Screencast and Cursive. And the launcher has been redesigned with some new elements.
The Gallery app comes with the PDF editing feature allowing users to fill out forms, sign documents, highlight text or add a text note to a document. The Screencast app will allow users to record, view and share transcribed videos on their Chromebook. The new Cursive app enables users to capture, edit or organize handwritten notes, but this feature will only be available on stylus-enabled Chromebooks.
Google says that productivity apps like Canva, Figma, Adobe Express and FL Studio are made to work with Chromebooks.
The launcher on ChromeOS has been redesigned, letting users find whatever they need with a press of a button. Further, Phone Hub and Nearby Share will receive updates in the coming months to enable smoother cross-device communication.
New customization features coming to Chromebooks
Google is also adding light and dark themes to ChromeOS. The users can choose to have either of the themes or choose the ‘auto’ option to transition from light to dark as the day goes. Also, users can set wallpaper from Google Photos and have it change daily.
The virtual desks feature also gets a small but effective update. Soon, users will be able to save a desk, including all the windows and apps. And when they are done, they can close them all at once.
