Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for PSV star Cody Gakpo with Erik ten Hag reportedly making the Dutchman his top target to replace Cristiano Ronaldo. The 23-year-old has been one of the top players at the World Cup so far and took his tally for the tournament to three during the Netherlands 2-0 win over Qatar after netting the opening goal.
Gakpo has himself admitted that it is nice to be linked with a club the size of United but has insisted his full focus remains on his international team as they attempt to win the World Cup for the first time.
Here Express Sport rounds up all the latest news about the player and his future as the January transfer window creeps closer.
Ten Hag’s Glazer demand
Ten Hag is believed to have made Gakpo his priority signing, demanding the Glazers sanction the move before they sell up. PSV are believed to be holding out for £52million for his services meaning the board’s backing will be a crucial factor in whether or not the club get the deal over the line.
Helping the manager secure the signature of the Dutch international may be the best way to give themselves some kind of legacy at the club after failing to connect with the United fanbase during their 17 years of ownership.

Arsenal urged to sign Gakpo instead
Talking of hijacks… Arsenal have been encouraged to beat United to the forward’s signature with former Liverpool star Ryan Babel suggesting he would be a better fit at the Emirates.
“Arsenal would be an incredible team for him,” he told the Athletic. “With the current manager and the project that they’re building. He has to follow his heart.”
It remains to be seen what decision Gakpo will take over his future but speculation on the subject is only likely to group over the coming months.
