ColorOS 13 is OPPO’s upcoming custom skin for its devices built on top of Android 13. The new OS is said to bring some nifty features and enhancements along with an updated design while retaining all the core elements of ColorOS. The update will soon land on Oppo’s existing devices in the coming months and will also come preinstalled on future devices as well. That said, ColorOS 13 will soon be announced globally making Oppo one of the first OEMs to launch its newest skin based on Android 13 where it’ll also reveal all the significant changes and improvements the OS is set to bring. In this guide, we take a look at everything you should know related to the ColorOS 13 update such as its top features, release date, eligible devices and much more.

ColorOS 13 release date

OPPO will announce the next iteration of ColorOS on August 18th, 2022. The custom skin will be based on Android 13 with all the core privacy and safety features built in. Additionally, ColorOS 13’s prime focus is interconnected with multiple devices, enhanced experience for large displays, and visual improvements throughout the UI with a tint of Material You theming. For those wanting to get an early hands-on of the latest skin from Oppo, the brand has started recruiting Find X5,  X5 Pro and Find N users in limited numbers for closed beta testing in various countries including Australia, France, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, UAE and Vietnam.

ColorOS 13 top features

ColorOS 13 is expected to bring the following features

Material You theming

ColorOS 13 update is said to bring Material You theming to Oppo phones which will allow users to not only pick accent colours from a wallpaper but also apply those particular colours to the icons on the home screen and app drawer.

Quick settings overhaul

ColorOS 13 quick settings panel

The quick settings panel is expected to get a brand new design with ColorOS 13 update. Most notable changes include the music player getting its own dedicated space with two new large toggles beside it such as Wifi and Bluetooth settings as the default ones. Oppo has also seemingly toned up the blur effect in the quick settings panel on ColorOS 13.

Better compatibility with large display

Oppo may have some big plans for devices with large displays such as tablets and foldable phones. With the ColorOS 13 update, the company may bring advanced and dedicated features to increase productivity while using tablets or foldable.

Security & privacy

Since ColorOS 13 is built on top of Android 13, the skin will utilise all the security and privacy features the platform brings such as picking a photo to share from the gallery without accessing other media contents, more strict location permissions, and automatically detecting sensitive information to prevent third-party apps from reading it.

ColorOS 13 supporting devices

With the brand promising a bare minimum of at least one major update for even its entry-level devices, expect ColorOS 13 to roll out to almost all Oppo devices launched in 2022.
