In the final day of action at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, New Zealand’s team of athletes will have the chance to better a medal haul record already broken in this year’s competition.

This morning, New Zealand cyclist Aaron Gate has picked up his fourth gold medal of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, winning the 160km road race in a sprint finish.

Gate won New Zealand’s 18th gold medal of the games, beating the previous record haul of 17 at the 1990 Auckland Games.

This morning, Nathan Brown and Luke Sipkes competed in the men’s 10m diving final medal event, finishing in 9th and 12th place respectively.

Following that, Paul Coll and Joelle King secured New Zealand’s 19th gold medal of the Games after closing out a controlled performance against England’s in the mixed squash doubles.

Now, New Zealand’s women’s beach volleyball team are set to compete against Vanuatu in a bronze medal match at 7am.
