Computex 2023: Frore Systems Launches AirJets, the First Chip-Based Cooling System Inside Zotac ZBOX Mini PC

Zotac launched the world’s first Mini PC with AirJet chips on May 23rd at Computex 2023. Called the Zotac ZBOX PI430AJ, the company terms Frore Systems’ AirJet as a “revolutionary solid state cooling chip”, and demonstrations of the device sure show promising results. Here’s all you need to know about the Zotac ZBOX PI430AJ Mini PC.

Zotac ZBOX PI430AJ- Specifications

The Zotac ZBOX PI430AJ is equipped with a 7W Intel I3-N300 processor, which features 8 Alder Lake Efficiency Cores. It has 8GB of LPDDR5 memory, with an M.2 NVMe SSD storage of up to 1TB. However, the highlight is the cooling system, which does not comprise of fans, but a “chip”.

The Cooling system of ZBOX PI430AJ- Frore Systems’ AirJet

Brought by the Frore Systems, AirJet cooling chips were launched back in December 2022. It claimed to condense an entire cooling system that generally includes fans, into a compact system that’s 2.8mm thick, 27.5mm x 41.5mm in size only, weighing about 11 grams.

Frore Systems’ AirJet is the world’s first solid state thermal solution. At the core of it, are tiny membranes vibrating at ultrasonic frequency. They draw a powerful flow of air which enters the AirJet through the inlet vents. The vibrating membrane transforms this air into high velocity pulsating jets which effectively removes the heat from the bottom of the AirJet, via the Heat Spreader. The hot air then leaves the AirJet through the integrated spout on the side.

Frore Systems states that,

“When integrated into a compute platform with processor die temperature of 85C, AirJet Mini removes a net 4.25 Watts of heat at a silent 21 dBA noise level, while consuming 1 Watt of power”.

AirJet Thermal Solution soon to be commercially available

AirJet is available in two variants- AirJet Mini and AirJet Pro. Zotac has succeeded in commercially making available this new and unique concept of a chip based solid state thermal solution with the ZBOX PI430AJ Mini PC. It claims to deliver twice the performance with higher processor speeds.

Tony Wong, Chief Executive Officer at ZOTAC Technology said,

“The new AirJet powered ZBOX PI430AJ delivers superior performance in a silent, miniaturized form, and we’re proud that this solid-state actively cooled mini-PC will be a trailblazer in the industry with its breakthrough cooling solution.”

The Zotac ZBOX PI430AJ Mini PC will reportedly launch in the fourth quarter of 2023, for $499. As for the invention of the AirJets, and its commercial availability, it could have some serious implications in the future of cooling systems. With smaller and more compact thermal solutions, laptops can get even thinner and lighter in the future, while mobiles can offer some very high levels of performance efficiency.
