Content monetisation on Twitter: Elon Musk’s plan to take on YouTube – Times of India

Elon Musk has been bringing changes about how Twitter will work under his leadership since the day he acquired the platform. As a part of that change, he has already announced various changes coming to the social media site. In the latest development, Musk has a plan to take on YouTube, the Google-owned media-sharing platform that allows posting long-form videos.
In a tweet, Elon Musk announced that content creators can monetise “all forms of content”, including texts and videos. In a reply to his tweet, a user with the handle @Everyday Astronaut and bio “professional rocket orientation specialist” replied “if Twitter could handle the [full-length] feature videos” and “offer a similar monetisation system [as] YouTube does”.
Musk responded by saying that Twitter “can do 42 min chunks at 1080 resolution now for new Blue, so you could break up a longer video.” He also said that the 42-minute video limit should be fixed next month. The new Twitter boss also noted that initially the limit will be 42 minutes and the platform will then offer support for “several hours in a month or so.”
Based on this information, it is confirmed that videos on the platform will be 42 minutes long for those who subscribe to the new Twitter Blue.

On monetisation, Musked asked how YouTube monetisation works and sought what Twitter could do better in that regard. A user replied saying that if Twitter gives a small cut of Twitter Blue revenue and “40% of the ads that run in the long-form content, that would be perfect.” Another user said that “YouTube gives creators 55% of ad revenue, FWIW” (for what it’s worth). To this, Musk replied by saying, “We can beat that.”
It is likely that creators around the world, including in India, will soon be able to monetise videos on Twitter. Musk has already confirmed that the platform will roll out Twitter Blue subscription by the end of this month in India.
