Counterpoint’s Q2 2022 Market Monitor report highlights
According to Counterpoint’s Q2 2022 Market Monitor, the global smartphone market saw a year-on-year decline to 9% along with a QoQ decline to 10%. This means that 294.5 million units were manufactured in Q2 2022. This marks the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic that quarterly numbers have gone below 300 million.
According to the report, Samsung emerged as the only top-five smartphone brand that displayed YoY growth. The Korean brand’s shipments saw an increase of 8% YoY while its total market share grew by three percentage points, taking the number to 21%.
Apple, on the other hand, did not fare this well. The brand’s shipments decreased by 5% YoY in Q2 2022, even though the company did see an increase in market share. HONOR’s shipments saw a growth of 75% in Q2 2022, taking the number to 14.7 million units. Its market share also saw an increase from 3% to 5% in the same quarter. Lockdowns in China impacted the YoY growth of Oppo and Vivo smartphones, leading to a double-digit decline.
