CR estimates steep decline in iPhone 15 series sales in China

iPhone 15 series was officially announced on September 12 followed by sales beginning on September 22 worldwide. According to the latest report, Apple is experiencing lukewarm demand for its iPhone 15 series in China. Research analysts at Counterpoint Research and Jefferies noted that the demand for the iPhone 15 series in China is worse than the iPhone 14 series last year considering growing competition from Huawei.

CR estimates a 4.5% decline in iPhone 15 series demand in China 17 days after its release compared to the data for the iPhone 14 series. Analysts reported that the sales might drop to a steeper magnitude i.e. to a double-digit percentage given the fierce competition from the Huawei Mate 60 series that launched in the country recently.

The demand for the Apple iPhone 15 series hit a wall with users concerned over overheating issues, and devices breaking even after using titanium frames holding them up among others. There are also bugs reported with iOS 17.x that the third-party apps are probably breaching to generate more heat in the system.

According to the estimates, iPhone demand in China dropped to 2022 levels at below 300 million for the first time. To put things into perspective, the iPhone 15 series sales volume is expected to be as low as that of the 2018 iPhone Xs generation.

Apple has been tapping into the Chinese market buffering it from higher price tags on the devices to gain more users considering it is one of the largest smartphone markets out there. It remains to be seen if iPhone 15 series sales in China will improve over the next few weeks or not as we are heading towards the likes of the Xiaomi 14 series, OnePlus 12 5G, and other flagship phones en route to their Chinese launches in a few weeks.
