CS:GO Breaks Its All-Time Concurrent Player Peak on Steam During CS:GO Major Finals

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) will soon have its successor when Counter-Strike 2 arrives in the summer. However, that’s not slowing down the game at all. CS:GO has once again surpassed its all-time concurrent player peak on Steam. The game recorded 1,818,773 players on Steam on May 6, 2023. The record was broken during the BLAST Paris Major 2023.

BLAST Paris Major 2023

The game from Valve released 12 years ago in 2012, and it’s astonishing how it continues to break records still, highlighting its popularity among gamers. There was another record up for grabs for CS:GO during the BLAST Paris Major 2023, but it wasn’t meant to be.

The CS:GO Major finals in Paris were off to a strong start in terms of viewership. There were over 1.5 million CS:GO fans watching the grand finale between Team Vitality and GamerLegion. It was Team Vitality that won the coveted title, thanks to the tournament MVP Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, who is considered one of the best CS:GO players. He was also fittingly born on the same day Counter-Strike was released, as highlighted by Dotesports.

Viewership record

While the tournament recorded good viewership numbers at the start, it could not keep the momentum going. The BLAST Paris Major finale, which took place on May 21, had 1,528,724 viewers at peak, as per esports stats site EsportsCharts. Unfortunately, that viewership was nowhere close to beating 2021 PGL Stockholm’s 2,748,434 viewers.

Despite this, the last CS:GO Major final to take place has a fairytale ending. Vitality had never won a Major title before, and they won their first in front of the home crowd in Paris.
