CWG 2022: Gold medals in lawn bowls and table tennis headline Day 5 for India | Commonwealth Games 2022 News – Times of India
BIRMINGHAM: It was another successful day for India at the 2022 Commonwealth Games here as it added four more medals to its tally, taking the total to 13 – 5 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals.
The quartet of Lovely Choubey, Rupa Rani Tirkey, Pinki and Nayanmoni Saikia created history by bagging the country’s first ever medal in the sport of lawn bowls, beating South Africa (17-10) in the final of the Women’s Fours event.
Meanwhile, Vijay Thakur continued the medal rush by the weightlifting contingent by clinching a silver medal in the men’s 96kg category final. The lifters have so far contributed eight medals to India’s tally at the ongonig Games.

The second gold medal of Day 5 came from the table tennis hall, where the Indian men’s team defeated Singapore to successfully defend the gold medal it had won in the last edition in 2018. However, the mixed badminton team could not repeat its achievement from four years ago and had to settle for a silver medal after losing to Malaysia in the final.
In track and field, Long jumpers Murali Sreeshankar and Muhammed Anees Yahiya confirmed their place in the final, as did Manpreet Kaur in women’s shot put.

Swimmers Kushagra Rawat and Advait Page took the final two spots in qualification to reach the men’s 1500m freestyle final.
However, Saurav Ghosal’s quest for an individual gold in squash ended with a defeat in the semifinal. He will now feature in the bronze-medal game.
Besides the above results, Dutee Chand was eliminated from the women’s 100m heats, India were beaten by England 3-1 in women’s hockey, weightlifter Punam Yadav returned empty-handed in the women’s 76kg category and Seema Punia finished fifth in the women’s discus throw final.
