Cyberpunk 2077 Overdrive Mode Preview Gets 16FPS on Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090, DLSS 3 To Be Essential for Path Tracing

Ahead of the upcoming launch of Cyberpunk 2077’s Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode on April 11, Nvidia gave a look at the technological marvel that Path Tracing is. With a new video, a little one minute long, Nvidia showed off the new levels of hyper-realism that it has reached with its latest technology of Path Tracing. Find out more about this latest update from Nvidia on Cyberpunk 2077.

About Path Tracing

The latest video from Nvidia that launched earlier today, showcases the Overdrive Mode on Cyberpunk 2077 ahead of its launch next week. The Overdrive Mode will add path tracing or full ray tracing to the game via the update releasing on April 11. As implied by the term, “Path Tracing” or “Full Ray Tracing” renders the path of the source of the image. Full Ray Tracing is a technology based on RTX Direct Illumination, which renders frames in real time. Having adopted the technology in real-time using RTX Direct Illumination, Overdrive Mode will be making its debut in video games with Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077: Overdrive Mode with Path Tracing

The Overdrive Mode has been demonstrated with DLSS 3 switched off and then switched on. As it is, the game was played in 4K resolution in a system which uses a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU. We can see how the activation of DLSS 3 raises the frame rates from an average of 16-17 FPS to numbers as high as 115 FPS. Needless to mention, at these values, Night City looks beautiful. Check it out for yourself right here.

As you can see, the shadows, reflections and lighting do indeed look as realistic as ever.

The Overdrive Mode update drops in on Cyberpunk 2077 this April 11. Later on this year, Cyberpunk 2077 will also get its first DLC – Phantom Liberty.
