Cyberpunk 2077 to Get a Novel Soon as Modders Bring Cyberpsychosis to the Game and More

The Cyberpunk 2077 official Twitter account has announced a new novel based on the game titled Cyberpunk 2077: No Coincidence that will come out in August 2023.

The novel is written by Rafal Kosik, and it will tell the story about a “group of strangers as they discover the dangers of Night City.” The account confirmed that it will be a regular novel, so fans who thought they are getting a graphic novel are out of luck.

Cyberpunk 2077 Mod Introduces Cyberpsychosis to Game

A new Cyberpunk 2077 mod adds cyberpsychosis to the game, which works like a humanity stat. In the Cyberpunk universe, cyberpsychosis is a mental illness that affects anyone who goes ham on cybernetic augmentations to their body. It is more specifically a dissociative disorder, that comes about when people with existing psychopathic tendencies use cybernetics. They become cyberpsychos, who view other people as weak.

As spotted by Game Radar, the Wannabe Edgerunner mod by DJ_Kovrik adds exactly this aspect to the game, which the game doesn’t look into. Here are the key features of the mod:

  • New stat – Humanity, which depends on installed cyberware, Berserk/Sandevistan usage and committed kills
  • A few Humanity thresholds, each with it’s own effects and visuals
  • Possible Cyberpsychosis when Humanity becomes very low
  • Cyberware Humanity Cost based on implants type and quality
  • New injector which should help you to manage Humanity
  • New widgets to track your current Humanity value
  • Mod Settings menu

The Humanity stat essentially depends on what cyberware the player has installed. Usage of Berserk and Sandevistan also affects this stat. As you install more implants, your character’s Humanity will decrease permanently. The stat decreases temporarily when cyberware is used or enemies are killed. The stat can be restored by going to sleep, which gives the character a “Rested” effect. Similarly, apartment events like Energized or Refreshed will also restore Humanity.

The Humanity thresholds are divided into three stages: glitches, pre-psychosis, and cyberpsychosis. During the glitch state, light visual glitches will appear and a critical damage debuff will kick in. The character can wear this off by going to sleep.

The pre-psychosis stage is where things start getting trickier. Not only do more visual glitches appear, but a critical chance debuff also hits you. There’s also a chance that cyberpsychosis can get triggered. This chance can be configured in the mod.

The cyberpsychosis stage will launch heavy visual glitches. However, it will grants a movement speed buff, armor value, and health regeneration. Things do become difficult as police spawn also gets triggered in this stage, granted you’re not in an interior or dangerous area.

Low Humanity side effects can be removed using a neuroblocker, which is a new injector that also stops Humanity points from decreasing when in an active state. There are common, uncommon, and rare neuroblockers.

In other news, Model Builder developer Moonlit S.A. has announced a new paid DLC partnership with CD Projekt Red. The creative hobby game has released a Witcher & Cyberpunk 2077 DLC which allows you to build models of characters from the games.
