Dak Prescott injury update: Cowboys quarterback dealing with shoulder issue

Dak is (almost) back.

Dak Prescott is back on the field with the Cowboys, a sight for sore eyes after the devastating ankle injury that sidelined him for the majority of the 2020 season. But while Prescott is back on the practice field, he’s already dealing with some issues.

A minor shoulder setback has Prescott on the shelf for training camp practice, but he’s not expected to miss extended time as he works through it.

Here’s the latest on Prescott’s ailing shoulder:

Dak Prescott injury update

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott will be temporarily sidelined with a strained muscle in his throwing shoulder.

Prescott underwent an MRI that showed no structural damage to his shoulder, which is welcome news for Dallas, its coaches and its fans. The Cowboys will re-evaluate Prescott’s shoulder on a day-to-day basis.

“I felt some soreness when making certain throws today, and I really decided not to push things too far,” Prescott said after practice. “Better to be cautious and smart about it. I don’t see this as any kind of serious setback. We’ll treat it on a daily basis and I’ll be fine.”

The other QBs on Dallas’ depth chart: Ben DiNucci, Cooper Rush and Garrett Gilbert, who all took snaps in Prescott’s absence at practice.

Prescott was full bore at practice coming off his ankle injury, which is also good news for the Cowboys.

He signed a massive four-year, $160 million contract extension with Dallas this offseason.
