Chiefs fullback Damian McKenzie said he is “grateful” to stay on with the Chiefs for another two years.

McKenzie has re-signed with New Zealand Rugby, the Chiefs and Waikato Rugby until the end of 2025.

His recommitment comes after the Chiefs 34-24 Super Rugby Pacifc win over the champion Crusaders at the weekend, equalling their longest winning streak of nine wins in a row.

Chiefs head coach, Clayton McMillion said everyone benefits when players of McKenzie’s calibre remain in New Zealand.

McKenzie is also the leading Super Rugby points-scorer this season with 105 and sits seventh on the franchise’s all time list with 435.

The All Black said the Chiefs have given him endless opportunities, so to re-sign was a no-brainer.

“I love being able to represent this proud region and will continue to do so. We’ve got a great playing group sticking around so the next few years are going to be really exciting.”

All Blacks head coach Ian Foster said he is delighted that MacKenzie has committed to growing his game further here in New Zealand.

“He is an exciting player and his best is yet to come.”

CEO of NZR Mark Robinson said this is another key All Black signing.

“Damian has all the qualities you could ask for in an All Black and we look forward to seeing him evolve even more in our game.”

28 year old McKenzie made his debut for Waikato in 2014 and the Chiefs a year later.

He has played 40 times for the All Blacks since his debut in 2016.

He took a sabbatical last year to play in Japan.
