Danny Green’s remarkable wait to receive 2019 NBA championship ring continues
Danny Green only spent one season with the Toronto Raptors but boy was it a successful one.
The veteran wing played a starting role on the championship winning squad, averaging 6.9 points per game across 24 playoff appearances.
The Raptors clinched the historic championship in Game 6 against the Golden State Warriors on June 13, 2019. Through a variety of circumstances, Green is yet to receive his championship ring.
Typically, players that leave a franchise after winning a title are presented with their ring the next time they return as a visitor. Unfortunately for Green, the Los Angeles Lakers ‘road’ game against the Raptors during the 2019-20 season occurred in the Disney World bubble. Hardly the ideal circumstances for a ring ceremony.
During the 2020-21 season the pandemic forced the Raptors to play home games in Tampa Bay, once again robbing Toronto based Raptors fans the opportunity to celebrate the popular Green.
Now with the Philadelphia 76ers, Green returned to Scotiabank Arena for a preseason opener against the Raptors. The franchise has opted to hold off on the ring ceremony for a bigger stage during the regular season.
With the 76ers scheduled to visit Toronto on December 28, Green appears on track to finally collect his reward 930 days after the Raptors lifted the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
We think it will be worth the wait.
