Dave Bautista Keen on Starring in Netflix’s Gears of War Adaptation; Coalition Reportedly Working on Gears 6 After Cancellations

For those in the dark, Netflix had announced last year that they will be working on an adaptation of the iconic third-person tactical shooter, Gears of War. The stream platform revealed that they will first release a film, which will then be followed by an adult animated series. The projects will be in partnership with Coalition, the company behind the Gears of War video game series.

And it seems one of the big names in Hollywood is very keen on playing the lead role in the upcoming adaptation. Dave Bautista, who seems to be having a fruitful 2023, with successful releases in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and Knock at the Cabin. Plus, the wrestler-turned actor has more to come this year, as he will be returning for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Dune: Part 2.

In an interview with Variety, Bautista expressed his wish to play the role of Marcus Fenix, the protagonist in the Gears of War franchise. He stated that he really hopes that Netflix reaches out to him about the film. He has been keen on playing the part for quite some time, and he feels he could bring “a lot of heart” to the character.

Bautista concluded by saying that he really hopes this opportunity will come his way. The actor also posted a video of himself in the Gears of War attire right after Netflix’s announcement, with the caption, “I can’t make this any easier.”

Coalition to Focus on Gears of War 6

In other news, it has been understood through claims by Jeff Grubb (via VGC) that Coalition’s next game will be Gears 6. He first stated that the developers have cancelled two projects which he was informed about through the recent Microsoft layoffs, that did impact Coalition. Grubb added that the studio’s main focus must have turned to Gears 6 over the course of last year and “definitely, that will be their next game”.
