DC Face-Off: Which Characters Do You Want to See Join the DCU Next?
James Gunn and Peter Safran have officially revealed the first chapter of the DCU, which is called Gods and Monsters, and we now have a better picture of what the future holds for some of our favorite DC characters, including Superman, Batman, Supergirl, Swamp Thing, and many more. However, there are still a ton of questions left regarding the many other characters in the wider DC universe. While we wait for those answers, we want to know which character you most want to see join the DCU.
We’ve gathered 120 of the most popular DC characters to “Face-Off” against each other two at a time, and we’re only including characters that were not specifically mentioned in Gunn and Safran’s big DCU reveal in January. This means DC Elseworlds characters like The Joker are fair game alongside Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, and Black Adam, as their role in the DCU is still a mystery. So, with all that being said, we invite you to jump into our Face-Off and let us know who you are most excited to see in the DCU!
(And don’t forget, you can pass on a Face-Off round if you don’t know a character by just hitting “skip” at the bottom of the page.)

What Is a Face-Off?
Like the name suggests, a Face-Off pits two things against one another and you decide which one is the superior of the two. In this case, you are voting to determine which character you most want to see in the DCU is. It’s possible to see certain characters multiple times, so you can keep voting for your favorites to make sure they get ranked higher than the rest. IGN’s resident team of DC experts pre-selected 120 characters for you to choose from. These get randomly paired up and each time you pick a winner, it’s tracked.
How Is the Winner Determined?
When voting ends on February 17, we tally up the total number of “wins” and “losses” each character has, and create a ranked list based on your choices that will be revealed on February 18. The character that won the most matchups will be crowned the “winner,” and in the event of a tied number of “wins,” the character with the least “losses” will take the top spot. If you continue to keep voting for your favorite character, they’ll have a better chance of ranking high on the list. You can vote as many times as you want until the Face-Off closes.
How Do I Know When I’ve Clicked Through Everything?
It’s difficult to know when you’ve seen every character included because they are matched randomly and there are so many possible match-ups. Playing until you vote for all your favorites or ensuring that certain characters don’t get in the winner’s circle are different options you can take with a Face-Off. By deciding the winner throughout all these match-ups, you’re ensuring that your picks for the character you most want to see join the DCU will have a fighting chance to reach the top of the list.
Which DC Characters Have Been Included?
For this particular Face-Off, we have only included characters specifically not mentioned to be part of the DCU following Gunn and Safran’s big reveal last month. This means characters like Wonder Woman, Black Adam, and Harley Quinn are fair game for this Face-Off as their inclusion in the DCU hasn’t been explicitly confirmed. We are also allowing characters like The Joker and The Penguin into this Face-Off as Matt Reeves’ The Batman stands apart from the DCU and is part of DC Elseworlds umbrella.
Lastly, since characters like Shazam, The Flash, Aquaman, and Blue Beetle still have upcoming movies on the schedule, we are keeping them out of the competition for now even though their role in the DCU is still unclear.
