65″ LG Evo C2 4K OLED Gaming TV for $1394.99
The LG Evo C2 4K OLED TV is the successor to the extremely popular and highly rated LG C1. There are two major upgrades of note. The LG C2 uses a superior “Evo” OLED panel that was previously only found on the higher end LG Gallery series OLED TVs. The Evo panel offers higher peak brightness, the one spec that the OLED generally loses to traditional LED LCD TVs. The other upgrade is the weight, although “downgrade” would be more fitting. The LG Evo C2 uses a composite fiber for its rear cabinet housing that drops the weight to a mere 32 pounds without the stand. The LG C1 weighs 59 pounds!
If money isn’t an object, OLED TVs are considered the best TVs you can buy right now. Of all the OLED TV manufacturers, the LG is considered by many to be the best. LG OLED TVs benefit from several generations of optimizations. The first LG OLED TV (a 55″ model) was released back in 2010, well before other manufacturers introduced their own consumer-ready TVs to the market. Fast forward over a decade later, and the world has pretty much unanimously agreed that right now, OLED technology can’t be beat. Compared to traditional LED LCD TVs, they offer better image quality, deeper blacks, better contrast ratio, wider color gamut, and super fast response times. Because of these advantages, OLED TVs are the best at displaying HDR content in all of its glory
OLED technology aside, the LG C2 has all the features you’d want in a gaming TV as well. It has a true 120Hz panel and four HDMI 2.1 ports for running 4K at 120Hz on a PS5, Xbox Series X, or RTX 30 series equipped PC. It also supports variable refresh rate (VRR), which is this TV’s version of adaptive sync technology, as well as auto low latency mode (ALLM), which means that the TV automatically switches to a lower latency during gameplay. The LG C2 is also HGiG compatible. HGiG matches your gaming console with your exact TV model and applies optimized HDR settings for games that support it.
Should I get the new 2023 C3 model?
If you’re wondering about the new 2023 C3 TVs that have just been released, there doesn’t seem to be much of an improvement. For 2023, LG announced a new tech called “Brightness Booster Max” that supposedly offers up to 70% greater peak brightness than previous generation TVs. Unfortunately, this feature will only be available in the more expensive LG G3 model, not the C3. So, for now, it seems like the better decision would be to potentially save hundreds of dollars and get the C2.
