Delhi acid attack: Notice issued to Flipkart, what company says and more – Times of India
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has sought explanation from e-commerce player Flipkart regarding sale of acid on its online platform. The notice comes in the wake of the acid attack incident on a teen in the national capital on December 14. Delhi Police has issued notice to Flipkart. The accused had purchased acid from Flipkart. The Supreme Court had in 2013 banned over-the-counter sale of acid at retail outlets.
CCPA has pointed out the easy availability of acid on the e-commerce platform. It termed it dangerous, hazardous and unsafe for consumers. The e-tailer has been asked to give an explanation within the next seven days.
DCW issues notice to Flipkart and Amazon
The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued notices to e-commerce majors Amazon and Flipkart for the alleged sale of acid on their shopping platform. It has sought a detailed action taken report from the two companies by December 20. “DCW has learnt that the accused bought acid through ‘Flipkart’ & that acid is easily available on ‘Amazon’ & ‘Flipkart’ which is illegal,” said a DCW letter, seeking details.
Flipkart issues statement
Flipkart issued a statement condemning the incident. The etailer said that the seller who sold the product has been delisted from its marketplace and it is extending all support to the probe agencies.
