Desi Twitter alternative Koo has already started to remove content to follow IT rules – Times of India

While Twitter is yet to fully comply with the new IT rules in India and is hesitant to follow all government instructions, India-made Twitter alternative Koo in its compliance report claimed that “it has become the first Indian social media platform to make it (the report) publicly available” and follow the new IT rules.
Koo also said that it will publish its compliance report every month. Having said that, Koo did not reveal in its press statement as to what kind of content was reported and what was the nature of the content that was removed from its platform. Also, the compliance section in its website did not provide any details about the content that got removed.
In the month of June 2021, Koo claimed that 5,502 pieces of content were reported by the community and it had removed 1,253 of them “while other action was taken against the rest – 4,249”. “Koo took steps to proactively moderate 54,235 Koos, of which 2.2% (1,996) were removed while another action was taken against the rest – 52,239. “Other action includes overlay, blur, ignore, warn, etc., Koos that do not comply with GoI guidelines,” it said in a statement to the media. However, little is known about the type of content that got moderated or removed.
“As Koo gains traction across India, we will ensure that Koo respects the law of the land and meets the requirements, enabling every country to define its own digital ecosystem. This Compliance Report is one step in that direction,” said Aprayameya Radhakrishna, Founder & CEO, Koo.
