Destiny Dev Teases Sci-Fi Project Inspired By Frogs, Comedy, MOBAs, And Fighting Games

Destiny developer Bungie has teased one of its next potential projects, and there is pretty much no chance you’ll be able to guess what kind of game it aims to be.

The developer said on Twitter that one of its “incubation projects” in development now is a team-based action game inspired by multiple genres and set in a new sci-fi world.

“It draws inspiration from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games, wrapped up in a lighthearted, comedic world,” Bungie said. “The team’s designing for depth, mastery, and Bungie’s signature action feel, as well as a friendly, inclusive community. We are actively hiring for this project and other small project teams.”

This is an incubation project, which means it might only be a testing grounds of sorts and not actually a real game that’s seen through to release. We’ll report back when we know more.

Bungie is actively recruiting for this game and others. The company added that it is “committed to a digital-first future” and as such, there will be so return-to-office mandate. People who work at Bungie will have the opportunity to work from home seemingly as long as they wish.

At least some of the job description for the game mentioned above has been mentioned before by Bungie. In 2020, Bungie said it was hiring for a game that would be “comedic with lighthearted and whimsical characters.”

Bungie, which was acquired by Sony for $3.6 billion, is the developer of the live-service giant Destiny 2. Before that, the studio made Halo games. In addition to the upcoming game mentioned above, Bungie is working on a new Marathon extraction shooter game for console and PC.

In 2018, Chinese internet giant NetEase invested $100 million into Bungie to create a non-Destiny game. Bungie said at the time that it was attempting to “become an entertainment company that sustains many worlds simultaneously.”

In other news, Bungie is hosting an event later this month where it will reveal what’s next for Destiny 2.
