Updated News Around the World

Diablo 4 players have already racked up ‘10,000 years’ of playtime

New sequel is the fastest-selling Blizzard game ever

While Diablo IV has technically only been on the market a single day, (the majority of the player base having joined Early Access last week), Activision Blizzard’s latest foray into the underworld is already chewing up the nights and days of its fanbase, amassing over 10,000 years of playtime in less than a week.

The developer says that over 93 million hours of Diablo IV have been played across its PC and console releases in just four days — A figure that frankly makes my head spin. While Blizzard is yet to reveal specific sales figures for the dungeon crawler, it has declared the sequel its fastest-selling release ever, beating out premium titles such as Starcraft II, Overwatch, and, of course, series predecessor Diablo III.

“This is a moment years in the making for the Diablo IV team,” said Diablo GM said Rod Fergusson. “We’re extremely proud to offer players the richest story ever told in a Diablo game. Players have a range of choices, including personal character customization, equipping personalized skills for battling horrific demons, or collecting Legendary loot to support your playstyle while discovering new ones. Since the game was first announced in 2019, the support from millions of players around the world drove us toward this release of our dark vision of Sanctuary. Hail Lilith, Blessed Mother.”

Diablo IV sees players build a custom character from a variety of engaging fantasy classes, before venturing into Sanctuary in a seemingly hopeless venture against the Queen of the Succubi, Lillith. The bloodthirsty and seductive demon has returned to wreak havoc on the townspeople and wage war against her former lover, archangel asshole Inarius. Diablo IV has received high praise from critics and fans, and is clearly performing its dutiful task of swallowing up its community’s free time.

Diablo IV is available now on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms. Blizzard has already stated that two expansion packs are currently in the works, to be released over the coming years.
