If you are a fan of super hit TV shows like ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘The Last of Us’, and were planning on watching them on Disney+ Hotstar, you might want to hurry things up a bit, as the OTT platform has ended its deal with HBO. This necessarily means that a bunch of HBO shows and HBO Max Originals won’t be available to watch on Disney+ Hotstar after April 1st, 2023.
The official Twitter handle of Disney+ Hotstar revealed the news on March 7th, 2023, leaving many disappointed. One can, however, still access the Disney+ Hotstar library of content, which spans over 100,000 hours of TV shows and movies in 10 languages, plus various major global sporting events will still be made available, but the HBO shows certainly won’t be a part of them. Here’s a list of the HBO shows which won’t remain available to Disney+ Hotstar after April 1st.
List of HBO shows that won’t be available on Hoststar
While the list is quite long, several major shows like ‘The Last of Us’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ are the most noteworthy of the lot. For those unaware, Game of Thrones aired on Disney+ Hotstar the same day as the US telecast, which was a notable attraction for many. Here are some of the major shows that the platform will be losing soon:
- Ballers
- Band of Brothers
- Catch and Kill
- Curb Your Enth
- Entourage
- Game of Thrones
- House of the Dragon
- Mare of Easttown
- Mind Over Murder
- Obama
- Scenes from a Marriage
- Shaq
- Succession
- The Baby
- The Gilded Age
- The Last of Us
- The Nevers
- The Sopranos
- The Time Traveller’s Wife
- The Wire
- Undercurrent
- Watchmen
- We Own this City
- Westworld
- Winning Time: The rise of Lakers Dynasty
While most of these shows have already aired, thereby meaning that for those who have already watched them, the ability of doing a re-run or a long weekend nostalgic binge-watch session will be gone for good, there are those whose new seasons are yet to be aired. The new season of Succession is scheduled to premiere on March 26th, for instance, and viewers won’t be able to enjoy the same via Disney+ Hotstar.
It is unclear how these shows will return to India. Rumours indicate Amazon Prime Video might pick up the shows to air on its platform, but that hasn’t been confirmed. The possibility of HBO entering India can also not be denied. A confirmation from the company is awaited.
