Djokovic’s wife speaks out on Paris Masters antics that irked fans
Novak Djokovic’s wife, Jelena, has addressed speculation over curious footage showing the star’s drinks bottle being secretively mixed up at the Paris Masters. Djokovic used the mysterious concoction to his advantage, too, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas before ultimately losing in the final.
Djokovic took out some big names en route to the final in Paris. Karen Khachanov and Lorenzo Musetti were cast aside in straight sets before the Serb met Tsitsipas in the semi-finals, which turned out to be the scene of the drinks-bottle controversy.
While a member of his team reached into a rucksack to make Djokovic what appeared to be some sort of energy drink, another spotted them being filmed and instructed the group to block the camera’s path in an apparent effort to hide what they were doing.
Tennis fans were quick to jump on the footage when it was posted to social media, with one suggesting that it looked ‘amazingly dodgy‘.

“I don’t see anything dodgy,” responded Jelena Djokovic on Twitter. “In fact, I see people trying to be private about their business in a world where everyone feels like they have every right to point cameras at you whenever they want. Apparently, wanting/trying to be private makes you dodgy nowadays.
“He will talk [about it] when he is ready to talk. This whole nonsense about making people speak about something they are not ready because OTHERS are impatient is absurd. Sit a bit in silence. Mind yourself more. Not everything you see is controversial. It could be private. Is that allowed?”
“It’s going to come out as one of the supplement, let’s say, lines that I’m doing right now with drink and a few other things, sports drinks, et cetera,” he added. “It will come out there. You’ll try it and you’ll let me know how it feels. You might win Wimbledon.”
While fans wait to hear if Djokovic will address questions on the contents of his drinks bottle this time around, the player himself is waiting to find out whether he can compete at the Australian Open early next year. The 21-time Grand Slam champion was given a three-year visa ban after being deported from Australia in the lead-up to last year’s tournament.
