Doctor Strange 2 Writer Reveals Namor Was Almost a Part of the Illuminati but Marvel Has Other Plans for Him
The sequel to Marvel’s Doctor Strange saw the arrival of many characters that came alive from the world of comic books of the popular publisher.
This includes characters like Mister Fantastic, Professor X, Captain Marvel, Black Bolt, Captain Carter, and many more, who graced the screen with their short cameos. However, according to Michael Waldron, the writer had plans to add even more including Namor, the Sub-Mariner.
The Multiverse of Madness writer shared this information during an interview with Variety, where he mentioned that he had ideas for the possible inclusion of Namor.
Namor has been one of the most long-awaited Marvel comic book characters, who is rumored to be making his live-action debut in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. With the movie debuting the underwater world of Atlantis, it seems like Mexican star Tenoch Huerta will be the man playing the iconic character.
There has been some rumblings about the Sub-Mariner arriving sooner in the MCU, especially in a movie like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The sequel saw the debut of the Illuminati from Earth-838, which is a group of superhero beings that came together to protect the universe from all kinds of threats. In the world of Marvel comics, the team also featured other members like Iron Man and Namor, alongside Doctor Strange, Charles Xavier, Reed Richards, and Black Bolt, which is why it would have made sense for the Sub-Mariner to be in Doctor Strange 2.
However, with the character making his debut as the antagonist later this year with Black Panther 2, it seems like Marvel wants to keep the character off-limits for other movies to make his entry quite impactful, and fans are wondering how Namor will be handled in the MCU alongside Atlantis.
