Dodgers fans invade Minute Maid Park, heckle Astros as they take the field

The Astros have been the punching bag for opposing MLB fans, as the 2017 World Series champions are finally playing in front of crowds for the first time since news of their sign-stealing scandal broke.

That had mostly occurred on the road for Houston. However, against the Dodgers on Tuesday night, the team got pelted with chants at their home stadium.

A contingent of Los Angeles fans took over a section in Minute Maid Park, and as the Astros went onto the field they shouted “cheaters.”

Here’s a look at the scene, via the MLB on Fox’s Twitter account.

That cannot be easy to play in front of at home, even if it is just one section primarily consisting of Dodgers fans. That may have been part of the reason that the Astros fell 9-2 in the first of a two-game series with Los Angeles.

This isn’t the first time in the past week that the Dodgers have gone after somebody involved in Houston’s sign-stealing scandal. On Thursday night, Los Angeles’ ballpark organist Dieter Ruehle played the song “The Sign” as former-Astro-turned-Diamondback Josh Reddick stepped to the plate.

It seems likely that the Dodgers, who lost the 2017 World Series to the Astros, and their fans will continue to hold a grudge against Houston for quite a while. So, we may see more antics like this on Wednesday night and throughout the rest of the 2021 MLB season.

And, perhaps, beyond.
