DraftKings Picks Week 5: NFL DFS lineup advice for daily fantasy football GPP tournaments

The player pool for Week 5 DraftKings lineups is a bit lighter with the Jets and Falcons facing off in the London game. The good news, however, is there are not any bye weeks to navigate. That challenge begins next Sunday. So, for NFL DFS main-slate tournaments, we still have a decent amount of value to choose from for our rosters. We’re back again with our daily fantasy football picks, and we like our chances with some high-volume RBs and budget WRs.

Before we break down our team, here are the most notable scoring rules for DraftKings contests: Full-point PPR, four-point passing TDs, three-point bonuses for 100 rushing yards, 100 receiving yards, and 300 passing yards.

Sunday main slate, $50,000 budget

QB Tom Brady, Buccaneers vs. Dolphins ($7,400). It’s reasonable to wonder if Brady could be in store for a letdown after such an emotional return to Foxboro. We’re going to bet against that notion here, though. Brady led the Buccaneers to victory in spite of being held to his worst numbers of the season (11.1 DraftKings points). The Dolphins are no slouch defensively — and they’re coached by a Bill Belichick disciple in Brian Flores — but look for Brady to start another 30-plus-point scoring streak this week.  

RB Derrick Henry, Titans @ Jaguars ($9,000). We don’t need an extra reason to play Henry in any given week, but the Jaguars provide it nonetheless. He’s averaged 114.3 rushing yards and 1.2 touchdowns over his past five meetings with them, including a pair of 200-plus-yard, multi-touchdown performances. He’s averaging 31.8 touches per game through four contests, so another dominant effort is in the cards.

WEEK 5 DFS LINEUPS: FanDuel | Yahoo

RB Chuba Hubbard, Panthers vs. Eagles ($6,000). One thing we like to do is go back-to-back on a player who fell short of expectations the week prior. Filling in for Christian McCaffrey (hamstring), Hubbard was a fairly popular low-priced option. However, the Panthers fell behind big in the second half and he was forced out of the script. The Eagles don’t pose that threat to the same degree as the Cowboys, so the rookie should have a better opportunity to deliver on Sunday. 

WR Antonio Brown, Buccaneers vs. Dolphins ($5,200). Brown was solid following his one-week absence (COVID-19), garnering 11 targets. His final line (7-63) was modest, but he just missed a touchdown grab. There will always be the risk of landing the week’s dud among Tampa Bay’s trio of receivers, but if Rob Gronkowski (ribs) is less than himself this week — or absent altogether — all three may be asked to eat.

WEEK 5 STANDARD RANKINGS:

WR Laviska Shenault Jr., Jaguars vs. Titans ($4,800). Shenault finally delivered a bit of a breakout effort, surpassing the 100-total-yard mark for the first time this season — though his 99 receiving yards last Thursday meant he just missed the DK bonus. DJ Chark (fractured ankle), who is out indefinitely, accounted for 22 targets heading into last week’s contest. Shenault will almost certainly be asked to pick up the slack while Chark is on the shelf.

WR Kadarius Toney, Giants @ Cowboys ($4,000). Toney paced the Giants with nine targets and showed off the playmaking ability that made him a first-round pick in last spring’s NFL Draft. Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard both missed last week’s contests with hamstring injuries and are expected back sooner than later, but Toney has what it takes to force his way into the Giants’ weekly plans. In the immediate term, we don’t expect Slayton or Shepard to handle a full complement of snaps on Sunday, providing Toney with another opportunity to make an impression.

WEEK 5 PPR RANKINGS:

TE T.J. Hockenson, Lions @ Vikings ($5,500). It’s been a frustrating two weeks as Hockenson adjusts to life as the opposing defense’s focal point. His eight targets were nice to see after being held to just two catches in Week 3, but his 4-42 line was a far cry from what we saw over his first two games of the season. The Lions’ offense will continue to experience ups and downs, but so much of it runs through Hockenson, so we expect to see him deliver juicier stat lines in the coming weeks. 

FLEX Trey Sermon, 49ers @ Cardinals ($5,000). It will likely be Trey Lance’s show for at least Week 5 after Jimmy Garoppolo (calf) was forced out of action last Sunday. Conventional wisdom suggests we’ll see a run-heavy game plan with the rookie under center, so Sermon should remain busy coming off the heels of 19 carries. The status of Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) will be worth monitoring, but we like the potential rushing volume enough to include Sermon even if Mitchell returns. 

DEF Dallas Cowboys vs. Giants ($2,800). We don’t love using a defense that’s facing one of the players in our lineup, but we’re going to make an exception here due to the Cowboys’ eye for forcing turnovers. They’re second behind only the Bills with 2.5 takeaways per game, and even though Daniel Jones has played reasonably well this season, we know he’s not afraid to put the football in jeopardy throughout a game.
