dragon range: AMD Dragon Range high-end CPUs teased to debut in 2023 – Times of India
During its Q1 2022 financial results, AMD revealed plans to release Ryzen 7000, a high-end mobile gaming CPU range codenamed Dragon Range. The new class of CPUs are expected to arrive next year, with the highest number of core, thread, and cache ever in a mobile gaming CPU. These high-end CPUs will be built on the company’s Zen4 architecture.
The Ryzen 7000 Dragon Range will have a TDP of higher than 55W and is designed for use while the laptop is plugged in. Also, it will be seen in laptops thicker than 20mm. Further, the Dragon Range CPUs will come with PCIe 5 architecture and DDR5 memory. However, some SKUs might come with support for LPDDR5 storage.
The upcoming Dragon Range CPU range will use the “HS” suffix. Despite high TDP, the Dragon Range will be keeping a check on the power efficiency. AMD’s technical marketing director, Robert Hallock, says that Dragon Range will be “notably more power-efficient than other laptops in that competing timeframe.”
As far as Zen4 architecture is concerned, it is expected to be based on TSMC’s 5nm process node. The Zen4 architecture will debut later this year with the “Raphael” desktop CPUs.
Apart from the Ryzen 7000 Dragon Range CPU series, AMD will also be releasing the Ryzen 7000 Phenoix CPUs. The Phoenix range of CPUs will be aimed at laptops with a maximum thickness of 20mm or Ultrabooks. This series of CPUs will have a TDP of between 35W to 45W. Similarly to Dragon Range, the Pheonix will also incorporate PCIe 5 and LPDDR5 memory, while some models could come with DDR5 memory. Both Dragon Range and Pheonix are expected to drop in 2023, after the debut of Raphael.
