Duleep Trophy: Pacer Tushar Deshpande replaces injured Chetan Sakaria | Cricket News – Times of India
MUMBAI: Mumbai pacer Tushar Deshpande replaced Saurashtra’s left-arm seamer Chetan Sakaria in the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy on Sunday.
“Sakaria suffered an elbow injury while training at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for the Duleep Trophy recently,” a reliable source told TOI.
Deshpande was the Chennai Super Kings’ top wicket-taker in IPL-2023, with 21 wickets in 16 [email protected], and was named in the standbys originally. Deshpande, who can clock around 140 clicks and was MS Dhoni’s main quick bowler in this IPL, had taken 23 wickets in six [email protected], with a best performance of five for 37 in the Ranji Trophy last season. Overall, the 28-year-old, who has been under the radar of the national selectors, has taken 80 wickets in 29 first-class matches @27.77.
The West Zone selectors had earlier replaced openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had been originally picked in the West Zone team for the Duleep Trophy, with Cheteshwar Pujara and Suryakumar Yadav.
West Zone play their first match in the Duleep Trophy from July 5, when they take on the winners of the Central versus East Zone in the semifinals, at Alur.
