Dwyane Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot Starrer ‘Red Notice’ on Netflix is Now a Trilogy

Netflix action flick Red Notice is getting not one, but two sequels.

According to Deadline, the heist movie starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot will be getting two follow-ups, with both movies shooting back-to-back next year.

It’s understood that Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot are all on board for the upcoming sequels. Additionally, Deadline says that writer-director Rawson Marshall Thurber will return, too, and is currently penning the scripts.

Although details are tightly under wraps, it’s said that the plan is to bring back the first movie’s three major stars, while adding more to the mix. The hope is that Netflix can turn Red Notice into an Ocean’s Eleven-style franchise.

Red Notice stars Dwayne Johnson as Agent Hartley – an FBI profiler helping Interpol bring a high-profile art thief, Nolan Booth (played by Ryan Reynolds), to justice. But the pair are forced to work together when Nolan’s rival, Bishop (played by Gal Gadot) throws a spanner in the works.

It’s not exactly a hugely original concept, and while it quickly became Netflix’s most-watched film of all time, it largely left critics wondering what all the fuss was about.

IGN’s own review explains that “Three A-listers globetrot and double-cross each other in Red Notice, a derivative action film that should be much smarter and sexier than it ends up being.” Not exactly a great start for an Ocean’s Eleven heist-a-like.

That said, the film has already been watched for over 280 million hours, shattering records at Netflix and earning the movie a 92% audience rating over at Rotten Tomatoes. It’s easy to see why Netflix might be keen on making a couple of sequels.

Red Notice 2 and 3 will film back-to-back next year, which already indicates a certain confidence from the online streamer. After all, it’s mostly multi-billion-dollar franchises such as Avatar or Avengers that get the back-to-back treatment.

And that’s likely a sign that Netflix is going all in on this new action franchise.
