E3 2023 Digital Showcase Dates Announced But AAA Studio Support Remains Murky

New E3 organizer ReedPop has revealed some of its plans for the digital component of this year’s event, but we still don’t have a clear idea of what developers and publishers are on board.

E3 2023 Digital Week is set to kick off on Sunday, June 11, and it will include online showcases like the PC Gaming Show and Future Games Show. ReedPop says more events and participants will be announced in the coming weeks. Xbox is also hosting a digital showcase featuring Starfield that will take place on June 11.

Major studio participation at E3 remains unclear

Three months away from the show, E3’s lineup remains unclear. Today’s announcement simply said that “Exhibitors from AAA companies to indie darlings and tech companies will be announced leading up to the expo.”

Last month, IGN reported that Xbox, Nintendo, and PlayStation won’t be a part of E3 2023. Nintendo subsequently confirmed that it would not be part of the event, while Xbox will be hosting a showcase of its own that roughly coincides with E3.

Ubisoft, on the other hand, said it will “have a lot of things to show” at the event. We don’t know if the company will host an in-person press conference or a Ubisoft Forward video presentation, or what Ubisoft’s presence will be on the show floor.

E3 2023’s in-person component is scheduled for June 13-16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The event will be split between E3 Business Days for industry professionals and E3 Gamer Days with an increased focus on consumers. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is partnering with ReedPop, a production company known for putting on events like New York Comic Con, PAX, Star Wars Celebration, and more.

E3 2023 will mark the show’s first in-person event since 2019. The ESA held a virtual event in 2021, but E3 2020 and 2022 were canceled entirely.
