Eagles’ Jalen Hurts on ‘deuce’ of a performance vs. Cowboys: ‘We’re going to flush it and move on’
Jalen Hurts wore the No. 1 jersey for the third time in as many Eagles games. However, he looked like he belonged in the No. 2 jersey he wore as a rookie during Philadelphia’s 41-21 loss to the Cowboys on “Monday Night Football.”
And Hurts knew it. He said he was displeased with his performance against Dallas and used a fitting metaphor to describe it.
“I take responsibility for how this game went tonight,” Hurts said to reporters after the game. “I’m going to learn from it. We’re going to be a better team from it. I believe that. I truly believe that. You take you a deuce, you don’t sit there and look at it. You flush it and move on. We’re going to flush it and move on.”
NFL PICKS: Against the spread | Straight up
It’s hard to argue with Hurts’ assessment. He and the Eagles struggled for most of their outing against the Cowboys, especially in the opening portion of the game.
The Eagles’ offense failed to score in the first half — their only points in that period came via a Dak Prescott fumble in the end-zone — and generated just 109 yards of offense. Their first seven drives of the game resulted in five punts, two interceptions, zero offensive points and seven defensive points for the Cowboys because of a Trevon Diggs pick-six in the early third quarter.

Hurts was better after his second pick and finished with 326 passing yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions and 35 rushing yards. However, most of his production came when his team was already trailing by 20 points in the second half, so he wasn’t taking any solace in his semi-padded stats.
“I didn’t execute. I didn’t do a good enough job of leading. I didn’t do a good job of running our offense — of doing the things I need to do,” Hurts said. “So it’s on me. This one’s on me.”
NFL POWER RANKINGS: Rams on the rise after win over Bucs
Hurts didn’t have the best game, but the Eagles team as a whole faltered. There were questions about Philadephia’s running game and play-calling, as the team let running backs carry the ball just three times.
But once again, Hurts deflected the blame and pointed the finger at himself for the offense’s woes.
“Play-calling was not an issue in this game. I was the issue in this game,” Hurts said, per ProFootballTalk. “I take it and I learn from it and I’ll be better from it, we’ll be a better team from it.”
Hurts will need to implement the lessons quickly. The Eagles are facing the Chiefs, another 1-2 team desperate for a win, on Sunday after a short week. Andy Reid will surely be out for revenge against his former team in Week 4, so Hurts will need to bring his A-game with him to have a shot at an upset.
